David Little

David T. Little, a devoted Canadian Catholic, pro-life advocate, and founder of the Catholic Foundation for Human Life (CFHL), passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Moncton, New Brunswick. He was 81. Known for his unwavering faith, tireless activism, and remarkable encounters with saints and popes, David’s life was a testament to the power of prayer and the pursuit of God’s will. His legacy endures in the countless lives he touched, the movements he inspired, and the spiritual conviction he embodied.

Born on May 1, 1944 in Saint John, New Brunswick, David was the second of ten children—two adopted—raised by devout Catholic parents, the late Douglas and Anne (McKinnon) Little. His early years at Holy Trinity School, under the Sisters of Charity, and his mother’s daily Catechism lessons instilled a deep faith. He learned to cook from his father, a restaurateur, but his passion lay in reading Lives of the Saints. At 15, St. Gerard Majella’s biography moved him profoundly, shaping his lifelong commitment to life. By 17, he wrote to Pope John XXIII, affirming the Church’s stance against contraception—a conviction reinforced in 1968 by Humanae Vitae. This marked the beginning of his spiritual journey.

David’s faith deepened through prayer and penance, especially during Lent 1964 at age 19, when fasting revealed “spiritual insights” that guided him. By 1973, married with three children and running a business, a pivotal moment came when a pregnant teen he employed sought his counsel. Her mother’s push for abortion shocked him, spurring his activism. He advised secrecy until abortion was illegal, saving the child—now 52—and igniting his pro-life mission against the evils of abortion. He began daily Mass, added a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament, and wrote letters condemning abortion and the moral decay of modern society.

His activism grew. In 1975, he visited maximum-security inmates, sparking conversions—including one who confessed an unreported murder. In 1978–79, he led efforts to sponsor Vietnamese “Boat People,” raising $10,000 and housing refugees with his own family. In 1980, he founded a parish pro-life committee, earning standing ovations for his talks. Joining the New Brunswick Right to Life Association (NBRTL) in 1981 as assistant to Executive Director Mr. Peter Ryan, David insisted on daily Mass and prayer. Their Novena to the Sacred Heart coincided with Moncton Hospital’s chief abortionist, Dr. Robert Caddick, halting procedures—a “miracle” David attributed to prayer. Meeting Caddick, David confronted the doctor’s justifications, planting seeds hopefully for a fully Catholic pro-life conversion.

At NBRTL, David’s success—raising funds, launching a 40,000-newspaper supplement signature ad campaign, and organizing a celebrity roast—was impressive. In 1983 he went on to help an American pregnancy crisis center organization. There, his dream of a Catholic lay apostolate crystallized. In December 1983, after meeting Cardinal Bernardin in Chicago, David called Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India.  Miraculously, she answered, listened to his vision for the Catholic Foundation for Human Life, and urged him to write. In 1984, he founded the CFHL in Canada, consecrating it to Mary and Jesus.  In September 1985, David organized Mother Teresa to visit to Moncton.  The Interim Newspaper wrote “In her 40-minute address, Mother Teresa implored Canadians to “never allow in this beautiful country … a single unborn child to feel unwanted, unloved.”  She called abortion “the greatest destroyer of peace, love and joy”.  Mother Teresa also spoke about the importance of charity and chastity to the enthusiastic crowd who gave her several standing ovations”.

That April, his faith bore fruit. Meeting Malcolm Muggeridge in England, he secured a book foreword and a letter for Mother Teresa. In the Netherlands, Piet Derksen pledged support. In Rome, Mother Teresa, moved by his plans, named herself CFHL’s spiritual advisor and sent him to Pope John Paul II. On April 16, 1984, David attended the Pope’s private Mass, then spoke with him for 40 minutes. The Pope blessed his work, assigning Archbishop Gagnon as a collaborator. David’s Palm Sunday with Mother Teresa in St. Peter’s Square and meetings with Vatican figures like Msgr. Dziwisz cemented his vision. He called it “glory, glory, glory,” crediting his daily Holy Hour.

David’s later years saw him mentor others, write, and reflect on God’s providence. “God, plus one, is a majority,” he’d say, believing anyone could serve if they sought God sincerely. He remained a “little nothenarian from nowhere,” humbled by grace.

David T. Little is survived by his three children from his first marriage, Jennifer, Pierre (Wendy) and Marc (Lorie).  His four children from his second marriage, Sarah, Hannah, Myriam and Seth. His sisters, Veronica, Marjorie, Mary, Jill (Greg) and his brothers, Jimmy (deceased), Douglas, Joey, Darrell and Kevin (Gloria). He was predeceased by his parents Douglas and Anne Little of Saint John, NB.

A Mass of Catholic Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton. By request, there will be no public visitation.  In memory of David, donations to the New Brunswick Right to Life charity (Tel: 506-459-8990 or e-Transfer to finance@nbrighttolife.ca) are requested in lieu of flowers. His encounter with Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, and countless souls leaves a legacy of faith, courage, and love for human life.

Georges Arsenault

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Georges Pius Arsenault announces his passing on February 6, 2025 after a 28 years battle with brain cancer. Georges was born in Moncton 70 years ago and was the son of late Isidore and Marie-Anne (nee Richard) Arsenault.

He is survived by his common-law-partner, Doris Poirier, along with his first wife, Gloria (nee Girouard) Arsenault, and mother of his sons: Marc (Jean-Sebastien) and Serge (Marie-Christine Marquis), brother Leonce (Azele), sisters: Ruth Anderson (late Jim) and Charline Collin (Daniel), sister-in-law Claudianne Arseneault, nephews: Jacques and Pierre Collin, Shane Anderson, and nieces: Micheline Boudreau (Dave), Nanette Arsenault, along with step-daughter Jessica Gough (Justen), grandson Evander and step-son Jake Poirier.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Bernard (Bernie).

He graduated from Vanier High School and then began his career at CN where he worked until his retirement.

Georges spent so many wonderful summers at the cottage in Cocagne with his boys Marc and Serge; these were some of the best years! The cottage was « location central » for so many family reunions, bond fires, lobster and corn boils with many friends.  Where many card and horse shoes games with his brothers and brothers-in-law, all while enjoying a few beers!

While his boys were growing up, supporting their activities was important to him. Georges loved playing his sports from softball to hockey. He absolutely loved his many goaltending years with many teams and the fabulous Nifty Fifties. So many games were played and with too many goals scored against him to count.  Go Habs Go was his motto.

He had a fascination with music. When he was a teenager. he often carried a small transistor radio to listen to the latest hit songs. He was one smooth dancer on that dance floor. He just had the music in him. But singing was his thing! The « CROONER » licence plates on the Miata Convertible says it all. He sang all the top songs from the era of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, etc.  Somehow he managed to sign-up for every Karaoke contest around and he did win a few along the way. A memorable night still stands out in Nashville TN at Wanna B’s as spectacular. During his travels, he always looked for a stage, a microphone and a Karaoke machine; he had so much fun just singing out loud with that big voice. He loved to laugh and tease people; just because!

His cancer journey was challenging at times but he just kept on moving forward; he had excellent support from his family and friends which he greatly appreciated.

To Doris and Gloria, Thank You for all your love over the years! He could not have done this journey without you.

To his Boys, Marc and Serge, I hope you know how much he loves you guys.

To Charline, his RN sister, he told me to tell you the following: Thanks for being there all this time!

Georges said that he will keep sending out all his LOVE to all his family and all his friends forever.

Dear Georges, Don’t worry we will look over your special people for a long long time; go and rest now. We will miss you forever!

In memory of Georges, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice SENB – Maison Albert House, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

To the medical team of Dr. Sarah Ironside, Dr. Dhany Charest, Dr. Pierre Whitlock and their respective support team members including all the personnel at the Dr. Sheldon Rubin Oncology Clinic and the Dr-Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, a heartfelt Thank You from Georges and his family for all that you’ve done over the years.

To the Staff at Albert House: You are all wonderful people! Thank You.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Tuesday February 11, 2025 from 7 to 9 pm and on Wednesday February 12, 2025 from 10 am until the beginning of the Celebration of Life at 11 am with Father Guy Legendre officiating. There will be a reception following the service in the funeral home reception centre.

Past Grand Knight, Dismas Bourque

IMG_1238 (2)

It is with a heavy heart that Council 1310 must announce the passing of one of its Past Grand Knights, Dismas Bourque.  Dismas had a very friendly and outgoing personality.   It served him well in his time as our Council’s Grand Knight and so many people always enjoyed seeing him around.  Grand Knight from 2002-2004, he had a style of leadership as a warm, inviting man who took time for every.  At the time, the Council was adjusting to the new Millennium and its challenges and Dismas did a wonderful job of guiding and growing the Council.

Dismas was not one to sit back after his time as Grand Knight was finished.  He could be regularly found volunteering around the Council and attending functions.  He and his wife, Connie, were always Council mainstays and a wealth of knowledge and assistance to everyone who asked it from them.  Their influence still lives on in the Dismas and Connie Bourque Family of the Year Award.  Such was their commitment to our Council!

A Knight for life in every sense of the word, Dismas has earned his rest.  We pray for his eternal life with God and rejoice at his reunion with Connie.

On Saturday, September 10, 2022,  a Funeral Mass was celebrated for the Past Grand Knight.  Those who wish to view it may do so here:

Alphonse Vautour a Veteran of Second World War, served in the Canadian Forces with the North Shore NB Regiment from 1939 to 1945.

When the war was declared on September 3, 1939, he left his family farm in Petit Cape, NB, at the young age of 19 years old and joined the army on September 6, 1939. He served in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador until 1943. Then his regiment sailed overseas for Liverpool, England, he was stationed in Nutley, Farnham and then Camp Aldershot. On June 6, 1944, as part of the first wave of the D-Day invasion, his regiment landed on Juno Beach at Bernier sur Mer. He then campaigned in Europe for a year and then took part of the Liberation of the Netherlands, up until the end of the war at which time he received an honorable discharge.

He was humbled to receive the Star of France, Star of Germany, Defense Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Legion of Honor of France.

On a personal note, Alphonse the Great, as he became known, enjoyed a long and full life up until the very end. He especially loved his big family, and nothing made him prouder. He truly enjoyed being around people and made friends no matter where he was. His mind was incredibly sharp and remembered a lot of historic events, family genealogy, quirky old-time stories, and jokes to make us all laugh. His heart was bigger, and he genuinely care about people. Always positive about life, he would not want to miss a party, hugs (especially from the ladies), outings at the Legion, volunteering in the Poppy Campaign until the age of 100 and staying active in his community. He was presented with the Paul Harris award and an Honorary member of the Veterans UN Nato group. He also loved to travel and always ready for a new adventure. At the age of 99 he flew to France and took part in the official ceremonies of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Juno Beach in Normandy. He was ready and willing to go to the Netherlands for the Liberation 75 at a 100 if it had not been cancelled due to the Pandemic.

A favorite memory we have is whenever he sat down to a nice feed of Lobster and a cold beer, he would always ask “Who lives better than we do?”, then answer his own question – “Nobody!”. Cheers!

Alphonse has always maintained a positive and favorable attitude towards life in general. He takes pleasure in bringing joy to his family, his friends and the people he meets. He was a man of honor, integrity and great loyalty.

Gordon had a zest for life and felt compelled to improve the world in his own way, contributing to his community as a businessman, a member of the New Brunswick Legislature, a Knight of Columbus and a Right to Life supporter. He enjoyed quick wit and good humour and although he suffered poor hearing in his later years, he could always turn a phrase to make people smile. He loved a good meal and often rewarded the cook with a groan and exclamation of “gorgeous”! His dedication to his family and faith was always apparent in his blessings upon travellers, newborns and those within hugging distance! Gordon was an avid sailor, enjoying the wind and waves in Northumberland Strait on Mañana and beyond, on the tall ship Endeavour.

And now there remains faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Thank you Dad, we love you.
